Author Biography

JoAnne Schudt Caldwell is Associate Dean of the College of Education and former chair of the Reading Language Arts Department at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She has actively participated in state task forces involving changes in teacher certification and standards implementation. She is coauthor of The Qualitative Reading Inventory (with Lauren Leslie, 2001).MICHAEL FORD is the Associate Dean of the College of Education and Human Services at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. He also serves as the Advocacy Liaison for the Wisconsin State Reading Association, working with educators throughout the country. Fords interest in elementary classroom practices in reading stems from his work since 1978 as a Title I teacher, a first-grade classroom teacher, a professor of reading in teacher education, and most important, a father of two elementary-age boys.
