SHUNRYU SUZUKI (1904-1971) fue uno de los maestros espirituales más influyentes del siglo XX y es el verdadero padre fundador del Zen en los Estados Unidos. Monje japonés del linaje Soto, enseñó en los Estados Unidos desde 1959 hasta su muerte. Fue el fundador del Centro Zen de San Francisco y del Centro Zen Montaña de Tajassara. También es autor de Branching Streams Flow in the Darkness: Zen Talks on the Sandokai y protagonista de la biografía Crooked Cucumber de David Chadwick.
