Author Biography
Professor Donald C. O'Shea received his Ph.D. in Physics from Johns Hopkins and currently teaches at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
A Fellow of the SPIE and the Optical Society of America (OSA), Professor O'Shea is currently the editor of Optical Engineering, the Journal of SPIE. He was awarded the Esther Hoffman Beller Award by OSA for "excellence in the field of optics education" in part for the Optics Discovery Kit he created for use in precollege education. His current research interest is the design, fabrication, and testing of diffractive optical elements, also known as binary optics. He is the co-inventor of a display system for low vision patients and has published more than 50 scientific publications. He is a consultant in the field of laser and optical system design.
