There is a growing movement in the United States toward developing a range of mental health programs for youth in schools. This movement is fueled by the recognition of the gap between the needs of children and adolescents and access to effective programs for this population.This volume focuses on issues being confronted by school-based mental health programs, or those that are actually working within schools. These programs provide assessment, intervention, consultation, and/or prevention services directly in the school. They may be staffed entirely by school-employed staff (e.g., school psychologists, social workers, counselors), or may include staff from community agencies and programs (e.g., clinical, community and counseling psychologists; clinical social workers; child and adolescent psychiatrists).The Handbook of School Mental Health is an important resource for the diverse coalition of school mental health staff and advocates including educators, social workers, school psychologists, school counselors, nurses, clinical and counseling psychologists, licensed professional counselors, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, pediatricians, and others.
