Summary
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
The brightest novel by Carla Montero.
A family of absent men and courageous women.
An inheritance that holds valuable lessons.
An opportunity to start over.
Gianna has been raised by her grandmother in the back room of La Cucina dei Fiori, an Italian restaurant in Barcelona. She barely knows anything about her past, nor the reason for the peculiar lack of men in her family. But none of that seems to matter until her grandmother's sudden death; the unexpected news leave her alone and confused. Among the belongings she leaves behind, are the key to a windmill located in a small town in northern Italy and her great-grandmother Anice’s incomplete diary. When everything seems to be falling apart Gianna finds, within her great grandmother’s story, the inspiration to start over and embarks on a trip to Italy in search of her roots.
Through this trip we get to know Anice, her almost magical connection with nature, her love story cut short by the outbreak of the Great War, and the reasons why she had to leave her home and start a new life in another country. But we also go along with Gianna on her journey of self-rediscovery.
